GETTING READY

Each trip with Northwest Fishing is a personalized 9-10 hour adventure designed to deliver an exciting, safe voyage on the Clearwater River with me, Captain Bart, at the helm. (I’m a licensed Coast Guard captain with First Aid and CPR training.) We provide everything you need to fish, but you’ll need to bring a few things along for yourself.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Our boat is an open 24-foot Bloodsworth welded aluminum jet, tough enough to ply the shallow waters of the Clearwater. It comfortably accommodates up to six fishermen, and even has propane heat to warm you up on colder fall and winter days. We also provide high quality tackle, bait and equipment, including top-of-the-line G.Loomis rods and Shimano reels. You’ll also get plenty of expert fishing advice from your guide. We’ll even clean and package your fish to take home.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

The Lewis and Clark Valley is part of Idaho’s “banana belt” region with spring weather averaging in the 70s. However, the weather can change quickly out here, especially during fall and winter fishing. (No worries, steelhead hit harder on rainy, overcast days.) So bring clothes for all kinds of possible weather.

Also bring a big cooler filled with ice to pack your fish (that’s positive thinking). And most important of all, bring your camera to catch every wide-eyed, ear-to-ear grin along the way.

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof rain pants
  • Microfiber undergarments that wick away perspiration
  • Microfiber fleece pants and shirt
  • Wool socks
  • Stocking cap or hat with ear flaps
  • Fingerless gloves
  • Warm winter boots (Tennis shoes not advised in fall/winter)
  • Personal lunch and snacks
